About Me
Web Development
I love the internet. Ever since I learned HTML at the ripe age of 10, I’ve been finding excuses to make websites. I was the coolest kid in the 5th grade with my own personal page, bound to be seen by no one but me. It had the best flaming link icons and spinning globes; sadly it's been lost in the black hole where all Geocities-era websites go to die.
Throughout middle school and high school I made a website for any class project I could. Jeopardy game with links that become magically invisible (read: same color as the background) when you read the question? Check. Science, Art, and Literature in 19th Century America? Check. Even outside of school, I spend countless hours tweaking my Runescape clan's forum theme (cXs for life).
When I got to college I started taking the web much more seriously. I’m fascinated with great design and wish I was capable of it, which made me gravitate towards front-end development. While I can't create a beautiful design, I can make one come alive on the page.
I believe users should have a sense of satisfaction when they use a site, even if they're not exactly sure what it was. The subtlest details make the biggest difference, whether it's the way a button feels when they click it, the way a form invites them to complete it, or the way the navigation encourages them to explore further.
The visual experience may be in the hands of the designer, but the interactive experience is in mine, and I make sure it's enjoyable.
Everything Else
I do have a life outside of web development, of course. I love video games (typical), music (typical), and card magic (ooh!). I have a PS3 and use my profoundly disappointing Wii as a less convenient GameCube that only plays SSBM. I've been playing guitar almost as long as I've been writing code, and picked up the drums recently as well.
I have a massive love for awful movies. My two favorites at the moment are Raging Sharks and The Toxic Avenger. If you have any recommendations for movies that are absolutely not worth watching, please send them my way!
